We charge between $150 and $300 per session.
No, not directly. If you work with Dr. McCollum and Dr. Ahrendt, then you can submit a Superbill to your PPO for insurance reimbursement.
We ask for 48 hours’ notice to cancel appointments. If you reschedule within the same week, then there’s no charge. If you cancel within 48 hours and cannot reschedule, we ask that you cover half the cost of the session, and we’ll cover the other half because we assume it’s something urgent.
Questions About Therapy
Our North Star is the therapy must be tailored to each person individually, so the specifics of what might help will be as unique as you are. However, you can expect that your therapist will be attentive, compassionate, thoughtful, and professional. You can also expect us to have a good understanding of what you need after the first few sessions.
We approach each case as unique but use our research based tools to formulate a unique approach for you. As a result, we don’t treat all diagnoses the same and we don’t use the same set of techniques for each person. If you ever felt like therapy “missed you” or “nothing happened” then you’ll have a different experience with us.
Because therapists are removed from your life, you can expect someone with a different perspective on things. You can also speak to your therapist about things that might be too difficult or complicated to share with family and friends.
There’s no easy way to answer this question because it depends on your goals and what you’re struggling with. However, most people see improvement within six sessions and significant improvement within 20.
We will absolutely facilitate a referral for medication if it’s something you want or need, and our therapist will remain in collaboration with the prescriber.
In most cases, if you feel strongly about not taking medication, then you probably won’t need to. There are exceptions to this rule where your therapist may advise you that it’s in your best interest to explore the possibility, but it’s very rare that it will be a deal-breaker for treatment.
Because everyone is different, this question varies. For some people, it’ll be important for them to “work hard” in therapy and reflect intentionally before and after sessions. For other people, it might be a lot better if they took it easy and therapy was a place of rejuvenation, not assignments. If there is one common thread, simply committing to be honest about your life and how you’re finding the therapy is a good place to start.
We think so! But it’s important for you to be the judge of that. We frequently tell people that therapy should feel like the best money you’re spending each week. If it doesn’t feel like it, we really want you to talk to us about it to see how we can improve things.
Yes! We’ve got appointments in person in SF Monday through Friday.
Yes, we have online therapy available Monday through Friday.
Typically, 50 minutes. Family therapy sessions might be 75 or 90 minutes.
Talk to us about it! Often, you can coach your therapist to work differently with you. If that doesn’t work, we can connect you with someone else, either in our org or outside of it.
